Original Pre-Campaign Summary

The game centers on the peninsula nation of Koukan (光関) and the adjacent Shadowlands. Koukan is ruled by an Emperor, who is head of the Crane Clan. He is served by four other clans named after animals symbolic of their philosophy: the Dragon Clan, the Lion Clan, the Phoenix Clan, and the Fox Clan. In the past, Koukan was also joined to the mainland by Shinkan (森関), but that country sank into the sea about 320 years ago. The Shadowlands are full of evil stuff under the command of Demon Lord Vazarro, but an artifact known as the Jade Scepter normally allows the Emperor of Koukan to maintain a barrier that keeps Shadowlands creatures out of the country. Unfortunately, the last Emperor and almost all of his immediate relatives were assassinated by the mysterious group known as the Scorpion Clan. Only the former Emperor's youngest son, Yuuzuki (桜月), survived the attack. He is currently 13, which means he cannot use the power of the Jade Scepter until his official coming-of-age nine months from now - which, in turn, means the terrors of the Shadowlands are free to rampage unchecked except by the brave warriors of Koukan. Additionally, Demon Lord Vazarro has created a dark barrier of his own to prevent most travel by sea in or out of Koukan. Furthermore, both Vazarro and the Scorpion Clan continue to send assassins after Prince Yuuzuki to try to finish the job. And, as if things weren't bad enough already, some nobles have begun to waver in their loyalty and hatch plots for their own purposes. Sensing how dire the situation has become, General Shuuko (槍子), the de facto current leader of the Crane Clan, has assembled an elite team to protect the Emperor from threats within and without. They will be given broad authority to act as they see most fit, provided they always keep the safety of the Prince foremost in their minds. Will the young Prince survive to restore the barrier? Is he truly the last of the Imperial line? Will the mystery of the Scorpion Clan be uncovered? Can the heroes of Koukan stand against the strongest demons from the Shadowlands? And how do katana-wielding robots make any kind of sense?

Errors and Inconsistencies

  • Yuuzuki's name should properly be read Youzuki.
  • Riko is initially described as a pirate technician hired due to the crisis, but she has sole use of a large laboratory in the Imperial palace that seems to have existed for some time.
