Episode 1: Arrest! The Heroes (?) Appear

Summary

The story opens as the Imperial Guard confronts Magistrate Kishi on charges of embezzlement. He accidentally confesses to the crime and summons a squad of ninja to attack. The ninja prove hilariously inept and Kishi is soon marched off to prison.

After recovering from the fight, the Guard is congratulated by Prince Yuuzuki and asked to investigate a threat against Lord Shumei, a loyal supporter of the throne. Quickly arriving at Shumei's nearby estate, they are told that a mysterious seer warned of an imminent attack. The Guard investigates the estate surreptitiously and acquires a strange jade box, which they partly unlock but cannot open fully.

That night, the Guard is awakened as Lion samurai burst into Shumei's mansion.

Episode 2: Battle! Mazoku Raid

Summary

The Guard and two samurai begin to fight the attacking Lions, only to be ambushed from another angle by several oni. As the battle rages on the veranda, a scream leads the Guard to rush back to Lord Shumei, who is under attack by a woman wielding a Shadowlands scythe. The party successfully defends Lord Shumei's life, but fails to prevent a skull-faced, black-robed Mazoku from breaking into Shumei's closet and taking the outer chest in which the jade box had formerly been hidden. Thinking they have achieved their objective, the Shadowlands forces retreat.

After the fight, two of the Lion samurai (including their commander) manage to escape, but another is captured and interrogated. He attributes the attack to Rigyou Hikaru, a minor Lion noble. Jin uses deception to question the prisoner separately, and learns that the attack had truly been instigated by a red-haired seer from the Phoenix Clan, who had claimed Shumei was a traitor to the Empire.

Bereft of the jade box, Shumei decides to return to the palace with the Guard and inform the Prince of what had occurred. Yuuzuki decides to trust the Guard with the information that the box contained a terrible evil of some unknown sort, upon which they reveal that it is in their possession (though they fib a bit about why they have it). The box had been sealed long ago by the master of the Phoenix Clan, but now the seals have been disturbed, potentially allowing the evil within to escape. Enshu Rin leaves to find a way to restore the seals, while Shinroku Hikaru leaves to investigate Rigyou's part in the attack.

Hardly have they left the room, however, when the palace comes under attack by a Scorpion Clan force led by the trident-wielding foreigner Lance Spitzer. His preternatural leaping attacks narrowly fail to defeat the Guard, and before escaping, he drops a bomb on the central palace building. While the others evacuate, Jin heroically hurls the bomb into a decorative pool and flees the blast area. Upon detonation, all living things within a wide area of the bomb vanish completely.

Trivia

The bomb was a teleportation device set to transport living things to a cell in the Scorpion Clan headquarters.

Errors

Takuro is twice referred to as Takoru.

Given that Takuro and Iria are later revealed not to have been allied with Vazarro at the time of the attack, the presence of the oni is never explained.

Episode 3: Crafty! The Phantom Thief's Ploy

Episode 4: Deflagration! The Red Mazoku

Episode 5: Encore! A Night at the Opera

Episode 6: Fratricide! Journey to Skull Island

Episode 7: Gazebo! Reagan's Ambition

Errors

One of the kobolds shouts "G'ta vell mul!" upon being attacked. This sounds nothing like the kobolds' names or the other samples of their speech.
