This is a list of programs or other tools useful for modding.

General

  • MPQ Editor: A freeware tool for creating/extracting the MPQ archives used in Blizzard games.
  • WinMPQ: Alternative to the above.

Skinning and Texturing

  • GIMP: An open-source image editor.
  • Paint Shop Pro: A proprietary image editor.
  • Photoshop: A proprietary image editor.
  • Image Extractor II: A freeware tool for extracting image files from MPQs, and converting between BLP and TGA formats.

Warcraft III

  • War3 Model Editor: A multipurpose tool for working with Warcraft III models, textures and archives. Created by Magos.
